Secure Sockets Layer, or SSL, is a protocol used to encode the information exchanged between a web server and its users. The practical application of employing an SSL is to preserve the data that visitors submit on your Internet site - a login page, a payment page if you run a web-based store, etc. Any information they input in any box on the Internet site shall be submitted safely to the server, so their login or payment information shall be protected from being accessed by unauthorized people. Typically, an SSL certificate needs a dedicated IP address to be set up, which means the overall cost for your online presence will be bigger. While this may not be an issue for a larger company, it may matter for a non-profit organization or a small web store which does not generate big profits if additional money should be spent. That's the main reason why we've taken advantage of an extension called Server Name Indication (SNI) and we have made it possible to use a shared server IP address to install an SSL certificate.

Shared SSL IP in Shared Hosting

You can use a shared IP address for an SSL certificate with each shared hosting plan we offer and no matter if the SSL is acquired through us or through a third-party business. If the SSL is bought on our end, not only will you be able to choose the shared IP to be set during the order, but you could also choose our auto-configuration option, so once you complete the purchase and approve the certificate, our system will install it for you within a matter of seconds and you will not need to do anything manually. The one difference between using a shared IP address and a dedicated one is that your site will not appear if you try to open https://the-IP-address rather than https://your-domain-name, but other than that, everything shall be the same. With this function you can protect the info of your clients and have a secure site without the additional expense for a dedicated IP address.

Shared SSL IP in Semi-dedicated Hosting

The shared IP address option is available with all Linux semi-dedicated hosting and the setup takes only a couple of clicks within the hosting CP regardless if you get an SSL via our enterprise or through a third-party provider. There will not be any difference with regards to how the certificate operates or encodes the data which your visitors submit, so your Internet site will be protected without spending the additional cash for a dedicated IP. The one thing which will be different is that https://the-shared-IP shall not open your Internet site, unlike https://the-dedicated-IP, but it is highly unlikely that anybody will ever try to access your internet site in this way rather than typing your domain. In addition, we offer an auto-configuration option for the SSLs bought through our company and if you select it and you opt to use a shared IP instead of a dedicated one, our system will set everything up the instant the SSL is approved and issued with no need for any action on your end.
